There's many different types of balls. There's urethane cover ones like the Pro V1 and these are considered tour balls. Then there's distance balls with just 2 layers and a harder cover (for more distance).
The answer to your second questions is: it depends. If it's a long par 5 like the 16th at the WGC Bridgestone (660 yards) it's hard for anyone to reach the green, only Cabrera and Quiros managed to reach it in two. On shorter par 5s long players might use up to a 5-6 irons. Usually shorter hitters have to hit fairway woods or hybrids into par 5s.

There are way too many balls to list them all, but some- from "Tour" level to two-piece performance:

Titleist Pro-V1
Nike One Tour D
Bridgestone e6+
Callaway HX Hot Plus
Maxfli Noodle
Wilson Staff 50

You can use whatever club you want for your second shot on a par 5. It's based on what you're comfortable and confident in to make as low a score as possible. Let's say you have major confidence with your 6 iron (your 160 yard club) but your 280 from the green. It's perfectly acceptable for you to use your PW (your 120-125 yard club) to get you to your "bread and butter" third shot. So the sequence would be Driver-PW-6 iron, with one or two putts. You don't need to bomb every shot you face... use some strategy, and watch your scores drop.

Flea markets, Goodwill stores, Salvation Army stores, yard sales, pawn shops. I've seen like-new clubs & bags for a fraction of the cost of new equipment.

My Dad used to give each grandkid a set of clubs when they were about that age, but he would shop around for ladies clubs, then cut them down to kid size himself, and replace the grip. He had a knack for it! And all the grandkids got lessons, too. Great sport to start kids out early with.

Good luck!

The best clubs--- for kids are U.S. Kids Golf! We have a store that sells these, but just in case you don't here is a place for you to go on line---edwinwattsgolf.com. Ieast you can see what they look like. I 'm sure other golf merchandising magazines have it too! Probably even e-bay!(Cheaper too, I'll bet)
The reason I think these clubs are so great--- The clubs are real (Not plastic) Fitting is done according to the height of a child. They are colored coded---makes it easy to buy additional clubs with little or no effort. As the child grows so does the selection until they reach the teenager stage
I think the price is very reasonable too! You can get the set or buy them separate. Our Grandson liked his set we got for him!

the Ignite spins the most of the three balls you mentioned (over 7,000 rpms).

in all honesty, why would you want a ball that won't help around the greens? Golf Magazine did a study on 54 golf balls on the market, from what the pros use to what you can get 18/$20. There's only 8 yards of difference from the longest ball to the shortest ball.

100 yards and in and around the greens is where you see a difference. the Nike One Platinum spins over 13,000 rpms (at 76 mph w/ a 56* SW). Since this is where more shots are lost, I'd recommend looking into something like a Pro-V1, or a Nike One Black, or anything that has over 10,000 rpms spin. This will help your short game (and your handicap) immensely, more than what a distance ball will do for you.

It's amazing how many people know so much about this game of golf, about spin, softer feel, 2 piece balls and all that good stuff. Since Titleist is the largest ball producer and covers the spectrum from the pro to the high handicapper, they have a ball to fit your needs. The better golfer can use any make of ball and essentially get the best result. I use many " Findees" but usually resort to a lower compression Titleist if I am competing in a Plaque tournament.
